The Phoenix Music Scene
In 2016 the Phoenix music scene is still home to some of the greatest people/musicians I know. Some are newbies to the local scene, and some have persevered through all the years, keeping the torch burning. There is some real talent here - musicians such as (but in no way limited to) the guys from Sectas, Steve Conley (who has ALWAYS amazed me), Flots, Sacred Reich, COD, Terashain, Razor, Dagger, Will Pierce, Color of Chaos, Ghost 211, St Madness, the kids from Warhead, and let’s not forget about ICON! I could go on and on.
In the cover/tribute band world, bands like Lit Up, Tony Noyes’s S.E.X., Angry Jon, Rock Addix's Strangeland, Faceless, Psyko Circus, AZ/DZ, The Ravones, Jaded Jukebox, and Stephen Christian's "Sam Halen". All these peeps and many more, work hard every weekend to bring you the best. They help keep your old memories alive, as well as play a part in your new ones.
And a special shout out to Jimmy Ellis (who has gone through hell) and still brings you excellent live music. This man has been to the edge, stared in the face and said “FUCK YOU”! In that, I would also like to say thank you, to all the friends and music scene family……You gave Jimmy hope, strength, and the motivation to fight.
OK, back to the topic at hand. I’ve said all that to say this: the Phoenix music scene has its ups and downs and right now it’s kinda on a downer. But NEVER give up or give in. Let’s all be like Jimmy, let’s all stand up, and shout “WE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT, we will fight, we will rock, and we will win”!
Last but not least, to all the guys who are……..let’s just say “Older” (myself included). Never under estimate the influence you have on the younger players. If you do nothing but talk shit about our scene, well…..that doesn’t do much to encourage or motivate them to carry the torch, does it?..
PS. I would like to personally thank Geno Dellamorte, Matt Brist, Tony Noyes, Johnny Harper, Donny Johnson (The Marquee), and Robbie Sixx. All of you have always been there for me, and helped some of my dreams come true.
And a very special thank you to Kim Commons (God rest your soul).
Cheers!
